From Ponting to Sachin: Highest run-getters in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

New Delhi: India and Australia are set to lock horns in a blockbuster five-match Test series in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The much-anticipated series will start on Friday, November 22 with the opening Test to be played in Perth. The focus is on the Indian batting line-up ahead of the series opener.

India captain Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the first Test and Shubman Gill is also ruled out of the opening Test due to a fractured thumb. There will be extra responsibility on the likes of Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal to score the majority of runs for the team.

As per the reports, KL Rahul is set to open for India in the first Test while Dhruv Jurel will also be included in the playing XI and Nitish Kumar Reddy is set to make his Test debut. Kohli will be a key batter for the team if the Men in Blue fancy their chances of winning a third consecutive Test series down under.

The star Indian batter has struggled to score runs against Bangladesh and New Zealand in the home Test series. He has a stunning record on Australian soil, scoring 1352 runs in 13 Test matches at an average of over 54, including six hundreds.

Highest run-getters in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for scoring the most runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has scored 3262 runs in 34 matches at an average of 56.24. Ricky Ponting is in second position on the list, scoring 2555 runs in 29 matches at an average of 54.36.

VVS Laxman has scored 2434 runs in 29 matches at an average of 49.67 and is in the third spot. Rahul Dravid is in fourth position scoring, 2143 runs at an average of 53.92 in 22 matches and Michael Clare has scored 2049 runs in 22 Test matches at an average of 53.92 and is in fifth spot on the list. Cheteshwar Pujara is in the sixth position scoring 2033 runs in 24 matches and Virat Kohli has scored 1979 runs in 24 matches and is in the seventh position.
