Gambhir, Sehwag get felicitated by DDCA for their contribution to Indian cricket

New Delhi: Former India cricketers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were felicitated by DDCA during the final of Delhi Premier League (DPL) at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, September 8.

The current India head coach Gambhir and Sehwag received a cheque of INR 75 lakh for their contribution to cricket. Both cricketers played a crucial role for Team India during the T20 World Cup 2007 and ODI World Cup 2011.

Gambhir scored 4154 runs in 58 Test matches, 5238 runs in 147 ODI matches and 932 runs in 37 T20I matches. During the 2011 World Cup final, Gambhir stitched a crucial partnership with skipper MS Dhoni. He scored important 96 runs off 122 balls at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He announced his retirement from international cricket in 2018.

Sehwag scored 8586 runs in 104 Test matches, 8273 runs in 251 ODI matches and 394 runs in 19 T20I matches. T.he former opener announced his retirement from cricket in October 2015. Earlier in the tournament, DDCA felicitated Rishabh Pant and Virat with the same amount of  INR 75 lakhs for winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma received cheques of 51 lakhs each. Shikhar, Rishabh, and Ishant were felicitated ahead of the tournament opening match. While Virat Kohli wasn’t present at the felicitation ceremony, his brother Vikas Kohli received the amount on his behalf.

What’s next for Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir?

After losing the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Team India players and staff members are currently enjoying a long break from International cricket. Gambhir’s next assignment will be the two-match home Test series against Bangladesh which starts on September 19.

The Men in Blue will also play three Test matches against New Zealand in October and tour Australia for the five-match Test series in late November. Team India will play 10 Test matches in the next few months and Gambhir is now focused on the Champions Trophy and World Test Championship in 2025.
