New Delhi: Newly-appointed head coach of Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for Abhishek Nayar and Vinay Kumar as batting and bowling coaches respectively in his support staff according to multiple media reports.
On Tuesday, BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to X to announce the appointment of Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian team after Rahul Dravid ended his tenure post a triumphant T20 World Cup 2o24 in the US and West Indies.
Nayar’s good eye for batting talents
As per the latest reports, he has requested the Indian cricket board to contact his fellow Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) colleagues and appoint them as the batting and bowling coaches of the team. Former Indian player Nayar had a successful stint in the IPL with KKR as a mentor and has good reputation for having a good eye for batting talent.
Apart from this, Nayar in considered to be a good mentor who veery well knows how to groom the batting talent with his classic inputs both on and off the field. The former India player has worked a lot with recently-retired Dinesh Karthik which helped him make a mark again in the Indian setup and also with young talent Rinku Singh, when he was suffering with an injury. The cricketer from Mumbai also has close connection with skipper Rohit Sharma which will eventually help in a smooth transition phase.
Meanwhile, Vinay Kumar, is also considered to be someone with a great eye for talent and his potential to work with the youngsters. Although much is not know about the cricketer, still the sources close to the BCCI have mentioned him with person with the right acumen. Having represented India in all the three formats, he is being considered a boon if he joins the Team India coaching setup.
