Gloomy Kanpur puts Day 1 of IND vs BAN 2nd Test under radar – Will it be called off?

New Delhi: Team India will lock horns with Bangladesh in the second and final Test of the two-match series which is scheduled at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. The teams had already reached the venue to begin their training sessions as India eye a series sweep while Bangladesh look forward to levelling the series and heading for the T20I series ahead on a high.

But… the motives of both might be washed by the heavy downpour that remains on the card for September 27, Friday (Day 1). Not just for the opening day but the Kanpur weather isn’t promising at all for the first three days. This brings forth high chances of the game getting called off on the first day if thw weather doesn’t improve during the match hours.

As per Accuweather, rain might play spoilsport on Day 1 as there is a 100% prediction of cloud cover on Friday with a 93% chance of precipitation. The thunderstorm chances stand at 56%. “Cloudy with periods of rain and a thunderstorm,” the website’s forecast reads. The weather remains more or less the same as the evening and eventual night approaches with the precipitation chances being 84% and the sky still graced completely with clouds.

Will Day 1’s game be called off?

There has already been rain in the city in the lead-up to the clash. Although Team India held a practice session at the ground on Thursday early into the day, their extended training could not be completed due to the downpour. Considering all the prospects of the stadium and its ground staff, major time will be taken to drain out the water if things go as per the forecast (during match hours).

Even the black soil pitch, that has been prepared for the game, will see a bit of different characteristics for being under the covers for a long time. Moreover, the wet patches on the outfield (if created) take extra time to settle down. Not every time the weather pans out as forecasted, but if it does in Kanpur, a washed-out day is definitely on the cards as the umpires won’t risk the players getting injured by taking the damp field.

Recently the one-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand had to be called off due to incessant rains in Greater Noida for all five days.

The city of Kanpur has been receiving heavy downpour since the last couple of days and the weather on Friday, when the 2nd Test between IND and BAN begins, doesn’t look promising as well.
