Google Doodle today: Honouring Sports Climbing Combined events at Paris 2024 Olympics!

Mumbai: Google Doodle on  August 7th celebrates Paris Games Sports Climbing Combined events. The doodle shows a bird animatedly climbing the eagle-shaped hill.

The Olympic sport of climbing involves two climbers racing side-by-side up a 15-meter wall. The speed discipline highlights a specific skill within sport climbing, debuting at the Tokyo Olympics.

In the 2021 Games, sport climbing was a single event combining three specialities: bouldering (short, technical climbs without a rope), lead climbing (where the climber clips a rope to protection points), and speed climbing (focusing solely on quickness).

For the Paris 2024 Olympics, the event was split into two medal opportunities: a combined event of bouldering and lead climbing, and a separate speed climbing event.

In speed climbing, athletes compete one-on-one to reach the top of a 15-meter wall as quickly as possible, with slower climbers eliminated in a bracket-style competition until one winner remains.
