New Delhi: Team India defeated Prime Minister’s XI by six wickets at Manuka Oval in Canberra on Sunday, December 1. The Men in Blue played a 50-over match against PM XI as they look to prepare for the pink ball Test. The first day of the practice match was washed out due to the rain and both teams decided to play a 50-over per-side match.
PM XI posted 241 runs target in 43.2 over after the Men in Blue opted to field first. Sam Konstas notched up sensational century, scoring 107 runs off 97 balls with the help of 14 boundaries and one six. Hanno Jacobs also scored 61 runs off 60 balls. The PM XI’s middle order failed to make any contribution with the bat. Chasing the target, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal forged a 75-run partnership for the opening wicket. Rahul retired unbeaten on 27 runs while Jaiswal scored 45 runs off 59 balls.
Shubman Gill also scored a stunning half-century after returning from injury but Indian skipper Rohit Sharma failed to score runs and got out on just 3 runs. Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar and Ravindra made crucial contributions with the bat as the Men in Blue won the match by 6 wickets.
Rohit and Co. still need to win at least three Test matches to directly qualify for the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the third consecutive time. The Men in Blue will look to take a 2-0 lead in Adelaide. Australian team has a 7-0 record in Day-Night Test matches at the Adelaide Oval.
‘Whatever time we got, we tried to make the most of it’: Rohit Sharma
After the match Rohit Sharma said that the team was a little unlucky that they didn’t get to play a full game but as a group they got what they wanted. He also thanked fans for their support and said that as a team they love coming to Australia and it’s nice to see people coming and supporting the Team India.
“Yeah, it was fantastic. We got what we wanted as a group. But we were a little unlucky that we didn’t get the whole game. It was washed out the other day. But whatever time we got, we tried to make the most of it, and we got pretty much out of what we had in front of us” Rohit said after the match.
