Hair loss treatment to soon be found? Researchers discover the cause of balding

New Delhi: Due to stress, poor dietary choices or an array of reasons, hair loss has become a common occurrence. For a long time, however, the root cause of balding has been discovered, and this cell discovery could lead to finding a cure for baldness, as per scientists. Researchers at Manchester University discovered that biological stress can cause hair follicles to diet and switch off. This overtime results in baldness and loss of hair. Experts say that the integrated stress response in this case can slow down bodily funcitons like hair growth during infections or when the body does not get the right set of nutrients.

While conducting a study of follicles in the lab, researchers discovered that the process can go haywire and also kill off scalp cells permanently. Stopping this with a drug can go a long way in stopping balding. This response can be implicated in a number of hair loss disorders, even pattern baldness. Researchers said that this could mitigate a long-term risk of baldness going untreated.

While it is unlikely that balding can be completely reversed, there is a possibility of regenerating hair in people who have completely lost it. But in case of people who are actually losing it, it is possible to stop the process. Therefore, experts said that the next steps in this case would be to workout a way to control the same. Hair loss and pattern baldness is likely to affect women in their 70s and men by the age of 50.

Lifestyle factors and age are not the only causes of hair fall. Doctors say that chemotherapy, the ill effects of drugs or conditions like lupus and psoriasis can contribute to the same. According to experts, this discovery was made by accident while studying the negative effects of drugs on hair follicles. When hair follicles fail to sprout, the stress response triggered after that can shut down the hair growth process. Experts were shocked to see the consistency between the response in various people. Results for the same were published in Plos One journal and the discovery could prove helpful for people with scarring alopecia or chemotherapy.
