Happy Jitiya 2024: Jitiya ke geet and rituals for the prosperity of children

Mumbai: Jitiya Vrat, also known as Jivitputrika, is a highly revered and rigorous fast in Eastern India, observed by mothers for the well-being and protection of their children. This festival is celebrated on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin and holds particular significance in states like Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

As per the Hindu Panchang, Jivitputrika Vrat is marked on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in Ashwin every year. In 2024, the fast will commence on Tuesday, September 24, at 11:34 pm, and end on Wednesday, September 25, at 12:10 pm.

On this day, mothers observe a strict fast, refraining from food and even water, while offering prayers to Lord Jimutavahana both in the morning and evening. The fast is undertaken to ensure the happiness, prosperity, and protection of their children from illness and misfortune.

By abstaining from sustenance, mothers demonstrate their deep love and devotion, praying that their children lead healthy and positive lives, shielded from harm and negativity.

The Jitiya Vrat begins with the ritual of ‘Nahay Khay.’ This fast is observed on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin. This year, the Jitiya Vrat will be observed on the 24th and 25th of September, 2024.
