Mumbai: Hariyali Teej is a significant festival for Hindus, particularly for married women who celebrate it with fervour. This year, Hariyali Teej will be observed on August 7, 2024, which falls on a Wednesday. On this day, married women fast without water to ensure the longevity of their husbands. Special worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati is a key part of the celebrations. Unmarried girls also participate in the fast, hoping to attract a suitable life partner.
This year, there has been some confusion regarding the exact date of Hariyali Teej due to the Tritiya Tithi occurring on both August 6 and 7. However, the fast will be observed on August 7. According to the Panchang, the Tritiya Tithi will begin on the evening of August 6 at 7:52 PM and continue until August 7 at 10:05 PM. Since Tritiya Tithi will span into the night of August 6, the observance of the fast will align with the Udaya Tithi (the day the Tithi starts), which is determined based on sunrise. Thus, Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on August 7.
Auspicious Yogas on Hariyali Teej
In 2024, three significant Yogas will converge on Hariyali Teej: Parigh Yoga, Shiva Yoga, and Ravi Yoga.
Ravi Yoga will be in effect from 8:30 PM on August 7 until 5:47 AM on August 8. Parigh Yoga will last from the morning until 11:42 AM, after which Shiva Yoga will commence and continue until the following day’s Purnahuti (completion of the fast). Performing rituals during these auspicious times is believed to ensure the fulfilment of wishes. The blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati during these periods are thought to bring prosperity, happiness, and relief from life’s troubles.
It is crucial to avoid worship during Rahu Kaal, which on this day will be from 2:06 PM to 3:46 PM, as it is considered inauspicious.
Importance of the First Teej After Marriage
As part of Hariyali Teej rituals, women engage in traditional practices such as swinging on swings and consuming sweets. This festival is particularly significant for newlywed women. Their in-laws send Sindhara, which typically includes Ghevar, Feni, clothes, and fruits, marking the occasion with special arrangements.
