New Delhi: Former India pacer Rudra Pratap Singh’s son Harry Singh turned heads when he went on the field as a substitute fielder during the first Test between England and Sri Lanka that began in Manchester’s Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Harry, who plays for Lancashire Cricket Club in the English County Championship, was named alongside Charlie Barnard and Kesh Fonseka for 12th man duties.
England won the toss and opted to bowl and filled in for Harry Brook, when he left the ground in the 37th over for a brief period of time.
Harry played for England’s U-19 team
RP Singh Senior had represented India in two ODIS against Australia in 1986, claiming the wicket of Dean Jones, which is his only international wicket.
A left-arm pacer, Harry’s father played in 59 first-class matches and 21 List A games in the Indian domestic circuit, claiming 150 wickets and scoring 1413 runs.
After appearing in the Duleep Trophy in 1991, for Central Zone against North Zone, the Uttar Pradesh-born pacer retired and took to coaching.
He migrated to England in the late 1990s and took up coaching jobs with Lancashire and the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Harry is an opening batter and was picked to play for England’s U-19 team in their home series against Sri Lanka in 2022.
“I started playing cricket at the age of four, joined Lancashire’s pathway system at eight and have been on the Lancs Academy since I was 15 – so it has been a long journey for me to reach this point,” Harry had said in an interview with Lancashire, who handed him a contract when he was only 18.
Harry has made his List A debut for Lancashire earlier this year and has scored s87 runs in seven one-day matches and claimed two wickets with his off-breaks.
Harry Singh is the son of former India pacer RP Singh (Senior) who came on as a substitute fielder for England during the opening day of their first Test against Sri Lanka. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
