New Delhi: Uncapped Indian pacer Harshit Rana was among the wicket-takers for India D as they closed in India C at 91 for 4 at the end of first day’s gameplay in the Duleep Trophy 2024 played at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantpur.
Harshit dismissed India C openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sai Sudharsan in his early spell. The dismissal of Gaikwad brought back the memories of IPL 2024. The 22-year-old youngster, who played for champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) last season, was slapped with one-match suspension for breaching code of conduct.
Rana’s now-very-much-famous ‘flying kiss’ celebration after dismissing the opponent batter got him into trouble. He was slapped with 100% match fees against Delhi Capitals for his frenzy celebrations on dismissal of wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel.
On Thursday, Harshit didn’t shy away from repeating the flying kiss celebration when he removed India C skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. The Maharashtra batter poked a good length delivery from Rana to the first slip, where Atharva Taide made no mistake to complete the dismissal.

India D needs brave efforts despite Axar Patel’s brilliance
India D were bowled out for a below-par 164 in the first innings after being asked to bat first thanks to the collective efforts of the India C pace attack comprising Vyshak Vijaykumar (3 for 19), Anshul Kamboj (2 for 47), and Himanshu Chauhan (2 for 47).
All-rounder Axar Patel’s masterclass with the bat (86 runs off 118 balls) helped India D register a three-figure score. No player other than Axar managed to score beyond 15 runs with six of them scoring in single digits.
Axar later contributed with the ball as well, inflicting two late dismissals of Aryan Juyal and Rajat Patidar to help his side leave the field with a 73-run lead, though they need to toil enough to comeback in the game.
Baba Indrajith (15*) and Abhishek Porel (32*) briefly resurrected India C innings in the late hours of the day as the pair remained unbeaten on 48.
