Milwaukee: Usha Vance, Indian-origin wife of Trump’s vice president pick JD Vance spoke at the Republican National Convention, when she was called to introduce her husband on the 3rd day of the convention on Thursday.
While speaking at RNC, Usha told the story of meeting JD Vance at a law school. Speaking further she mentioned that Vance took their differences with curiosity, and accepted the cultural differences. She added that now Vance even cooks Indian food for her mother and has become an integral part of the family.
‘When I was asked to introduce my husband, JD Vance to all of you, I was lost. It occurred to me that there was only one thing to do: to explain, from the heart, why I love and admire J.D., why I and why he will make a great Vice President of the United States’ she said.
‘I met J.D. in law school when he was fresh out of Ohio State which he attended with the support of the G.I. Bill. He was then, as now, the most interesting person I knew. A working-class guy who had overcome childhood traumas that I could barely fathom to end up at Yale Law School. A tough Marine who had served in Iraq, but whose idea of a good time was playing with puppies, she added.
Usha also mentioned at the event that the JD I met then is the same JD you know now and his goals in this new role are the same as he persuaded their family.
In 2014, Usha and JD Vance were married in Kentucky, following Hindu rituals and in the presence of a Hindu priest.
Usha had never made an appearance at any political events, not even during JD’s Senate campaign.
Usha Vance, the daughter of Indian immigrants, was raised in the suburbs of San Diego. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Yale and later obtained a master’s in philosophy from the University of Cambridge.
