New Delhi: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the T20I cricket after the T20 World Cup 2024. All three cricketers ended their T20I career on a high as India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final and ended their long-standing ICC trophy drought.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) head coach Andy Flower said India has readymade replacements for the guys who retired because of the strong domestic structure and the country will keep producing greats.
“There are readymade replacements for the guys who’ve retired, even though they are genuinely great cricketers. The strong domestic structure in India means there will always be readymade replacements. It’s certainly nothing to be scared of. India will keep producing these greats” Flower said to the Times of India.
He also said that Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t play a single game in the T20 World Cup but he is a great option. He also talked about Shubman Gill and said that he is a very intelligent player and plays in a very similar way to Virat Kohli.
“Shubman Gill, by his standards, had a quiet IPL but he looks a very intelligent player. He plays in a similar way to Virat Kohli” he added.
‘Little surprised by Virat’s retirement’: Andy Flower
The RCB head coach said that he was a little surprised by Virat’s retirement and he enjoyed working with Virat in the last IPL season. He also said that he has great respect for Virat the way he supported Faf and the team management during last season.
“I hadn’t thought about it (Kohli’s retirement). I was a little surprised. I really enjoyed working with Virat in the IPL last season. I have the utmost respect for him, obviously as a player but also the way he supported Faf du Plessis (RCB captain) and myself and Mo Bobat (RCB director of cricket),” Flower told The Times of India.
