Heartwarming! Virat Kohli gifts signed bat to Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan

Kanpur: In a heartwarming gesture, Indian superstar batter Virat Kohli gifted a signed bat to Bangladesh’s iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan following the Kanpur Test. Kohli honoured Shakib with the special bat, marking what could be Shakib’s final Test match. The sweet gesture reflected Kohli’s immense respect for Shakib’s legendary all-round career, which could be potentially over after his team’s 7-wicket defeat at the Green Park stadium.

Shakib had earlier hinted that the second Test against India in Kanpur might be his last in red-ball international cricket. Due to the political scenario in Bangladesh, Shakib is unlikely to be selected for the home Test series against South Africa. The 37-year-old all-rounder wants to play at home against the Proteas but due to the political circumstances and controversial circumstances in the students’ protests, which involve charges of murder against him, he is all but certain to be ignored for selection.

Following the post-match presentation ceremony at the Green Park stadium, where India celebrated a 2-0 series whitewash victory, Kohli was caught by cameras having a warm conversation with Shakib. The chat was followed by the special exchange of the bat.

India canter to win in extraordinary circumstances

Despite the loss of 235 overs including two successive washout days, India managed to pull off a miraculous victory with seven wickets and 45 wickets to spare. Riding on a breathtaking display of batting in the first innings and some incisive bowling by both pacers and the spinner, India claimed a win for the ages to register their 18th successive Test series win at home.
