Heavy rain lashes Hyderabad, low lying areas waterlogged

Hyderabad: Heavy rain lashed many parts of the city on Sunday evening, leading to a deluge and disrupting daily life.

Many low lying areas were waterlogged, halting traffic in many areas including Paradise Circle, Uppal, Cyber Towers, Lower Tank Bund, Begumpet, Peerzadiguda, Ramnagar and Amberpet. Rain water also impacted several residents living in low lying areas.

Cars swept away in deluge:

Many cars got swept away in the deluge including one on a flooded road in Krishna nagar, Yusufguda. Another car with passengers inside the car got swept away in Musheerabad area. Locals managed to stop the car and rescued 5 passengers from it by breaking the glass.

 

As per Telangana Development Planning Society data, Maredpally area of the city saw the highest amount of rainfall with 75.3 mm and Khairatabad area saw the second highest amount of rain with 74 mm followed by Musheerabad, Shaikpet, Serilingampally, Uppal, Secunderabad.

 

PVR theatre sees roof leak:

As a consequence of the rain, moviegoers at PVR theatre in Panjagutta bore the brunt of it with the roof of the theatre leaking during the screening of Kalki 2898 AD.

A heated confrontation took place between the customers who bought tickets and the management of the theatre, as they did not stop the screening even as rain water leaked through the roof.  Customers contacted police after not receiving satisfactory answer from management.

 

GHMC deployed Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams to clear water stagnation and to attend emergencies. Power outages were reported in some areas.

The Hussain Sagar Lake’s water level reached 513.40 metres on Monday morning, just a tad below its Full Tank Level 513.41 metres and Maximum Water Level of 514.75 metres.

Hyderabad Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rain today and the municipal principal secretary alerted officials of various departments.
