New Delhi: Last week, actor Taha Shah Badussha made waves with his appearance at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. While his presence sparked a mix of support and scepticism, the actor has now clarified the purpose behind his Cannes debut. In a recent interview, Taha candidly discussed the reasons for his visit and responded to online chatter.
Taha Shah’s candid revelation on Cannes appearance
Taha’s appearance at Cannes was tied to the trailer and poster launch of his film Paro at the Bharat Pavilion. Despite some reports claiming he looked “uncertain” on the red carpet and was seen signalling photographers to capture his moments, Taha dismissed the criticism as bizarre.
“I don’t get the time to go on social media, but I see screenshots from various groups. Nobody said these things about me earlier. I did some jugaad and went to IFFI last year, but nobody spoke about it. What about that?” he told News18, addressing the rumours.
Taha openly admitted that part of his mission at Cannes was to network. Known for his hustle, he embraced the festival as a platform to make valuable industry connections. “I went to Cannes to launch my film and to make contacts. So many people from America and Canada looked at me and said, ‘This guy is the star of Heeramandi but he’s acting like a newcomer’. I literally went around giving my card to people asking them to be in touch with me and watch Heeramandi,” he shared.

Reflecting on his networking efforts, Taha stressed the importance of perseverance. “I may not need to do this, but I know where I come from. I always say that one day, you’ll find one golden person who will change your life. Out of the 500-600 people I met in Cannes, I need one person to believe in me. I’ll keep hustling. I’ll keep building relationships and putting in my hundred per cent,” he added.
Taha’s Cannes stint came shortly after the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which garnered him significant acclaim. The positive reception he received at the French Riviera left him overwhelmed.
Heeramandi’s Tajdaar aka Taha Shah Badussha recently opened up on getting slammed for Cannes appearance. In a recent interview, the actor finally addressed the rumours of going to the film festival without invitation.
