New Delhi: Following the assassination of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah last week, Lebanon Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib has claimed that the former had agreed to a ceasefire with Israel shortly before he was killed in the Israeli airstrike on Beirut. Global media outlets citing Bou Habib reported that the United States and French representatives were informed about the ceasefire decision.
As per reports, Habib stated that Nasrallah had agreed to ceasefire. He further said Lebanon had fully agreed to the ceasefire after consulting with Hezbollah, and communicated this to American and French officials. He further claimed that Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had also agreed to the ceasefire proposal.
Meanwhile, the funeral of slain Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah is expected to be held on Friday. If reports are to believed then the Hezbollah chief was inside a bunker in the southern suburb of Dahiyeh when it was struck. However, Hezbollah’s statement last Saturday confirming Nasrallah’s death did not mention how exactly he was killed. Media reports claimed that his body had no direct wounds and that it appeared the cause of death was blunt trauma from the force of the blast.
Reports further claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had warned the Hezbollah leader to flee Lebanon days before he was eliminated in an Israeli strike.
