New Delhi: After his debut in the Indian vs England Test series in February this year, domestic star player Sarfaraz Khan has been out of competitive action in the last five months. The young batter proved his mettle in the fifth and final Test of the series against the English side after he score 56 runs off just 60 deliveries in India’s innings.
The talented batter, who had to wait a lot before final getting the opportunity to debut, is not yet guaranteed a middle-order slot as stalwarts Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are set to return. Despite not sighting a return in the near future, Sarfaraz has made it a point to keep up his fitness level during the silent phase as well.
Batter reveals fitness rountine
The batter has kept up a gruelling practice routine, and aims to get among the runs in the ongoing Buchi Babu cricket tournament. In an interview with The Indian Express, Sarfaraz revealed details about his fitness routine during the five months of no cricket. The flamboyant batter said that he would wake up by 4.15 am and by 4.30 am. He started the day with long-distance running which proved very helpful in improving his fitness.
Because of this long-distance running, which he followed religiously, he was able to run 5 kilometres in half an hour. Post that, he would hit the gym for some exercise, allotting the first half of the day for fitness and fielding drills only. The evening part was dedicated towards his usual batting sessions, which occasionally stretched for a long time.
Sarfaraz came under widespread criticism for his bulky figure and fitness concerns ahead of his selection, but quickly put the doubts to bed, as he piled up 200 runs in his first three Tests.
