HS Prannoy’s Malaysia Super 100 badminton clash suspended due to bizarre reason

New Delhi: Indian badminton star HS Prannoy had an unusual start to his season-opening Malaysia Super 100 badminton tournament clash as it got suspended due to an odd reason on Tuesday. His first match of 2025, which was against Canadian player Brian Yang, finally got suspended after couple of delays due to a leaking roof at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.

The ace Indian shuttler, who returned to competitive action after the Paris Olympic 2024s, was leading 21-12, 6-3 against the Canadian opponent when rainwater started seeping through the roof forcing play to stop about half an hour into the match. The play was halted for almost more than a hour and then it got resumed for a while. It again started seeping from the roof and the match had to be halted again as the issue persisted.

Officials decide to suspend the game

Chinese Yang was leading 11-9 in the second game when the officials decided to suspend the game, which was postponed for Wednesday and will resume with the score line 21-12, 9-11. As per a report in news agency PTI, the Indian player has raised the problem with the chair umpire after the water started leaking from the left front section of the court. This led to the organisers inspecting the area and they found the rainwater leaking issue. Organisers were also seen using white towels to dry the courts but nothing worked in their favour.

Meanwhile in another match, India’s Lakshya Sen faltered in his first match against Chinese Chi Yu-jen, going down 12-21, 7-21. Sen failed to put up a good show in front of his opponent displaying a dismal form in both the sets. The Indian had come off a title victory at the Syed Modi International in Lucknow and a third-place finish at the King Cup International.
