New Delhi: In a huge blow for India, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Bumrah will be missing the multi-nation tournament due to a lower back injury. BCCI on Tuesday provided an update on Bumrah’s injury and confirmed the pacer will not be part of India’s final 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy.
Harshit Rana has been named the replacement for the injured Bumrah while Varun Chakaravarthy has also been included in the squad in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Chakaravarthy was reportedly in line to take Bumrah’s place in the 15-man squad. However, the selectors and the team management have decided to opt for a like-to-like replacement for the pacer in Rana and drop Jaiswal to make way for Chakaravrthy.
“Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement,” BCCI said in a release on Tuesday.
The announcement from BCCI came on Wednesday which was the deadline for all eight teams to make final changes in their preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. Bumrah was part of India’s preliminary 15-man squad for the competition along with Jaiswal, who was rewarded for his heroics in the Test series against Australia and his consistent run for India in Tests and T20Is.
