Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that ” Donald Trump will be the president again,” during an interview on Sunday.
“The wind is turning in America; Democrats will leave, Republicans will come, Donald Trump will be the president again. This means that the ‘pro-peace’ political forces will have a majority in the West by the end of the year,” Orban said.
Orban argued that currently there was a “pro-war majority in the Western world” that is bound to change following the U.S. elections.
A right-wing populist and the European Union’s longest-serving leader, Orban has publicly stated several times that he hopes for the re-election of Donald Trump.
The Hungarian prime minister has become an icon to some U.S. conservatives for championing what he calls “illiberal democracy,” which includes some of the EU’s harshest restrictions on immigration and LGBTQ+ rights.
He has also cracked down on the press and judiciary in the formerly Communist Central European country and been accused by the EU of violating rule-of-law and democracy standards, all while vigorously pursuing ever deeper relations with Beijing and Moscow, considered adversaries by his allies in the NATO military alliance.
“I think there’s a new middle, there’s a new majority. The vast majority of people are pro-peace, anti-migration and anti-gender. We patriots represent these forces here in Europe and I think these forces will come to power in the United States on Tuesday,” Orban said.
