‘I get scolded every day’: Rishabh Pant reacts to KL Rahul-Sanjiv Goenka controversy in IPL 2024

New Delhi: Team India star Rishabh Pant opened up on the controversial episode between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka and the team’s captain KL Rahul during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Goenka had a public outburst on Rahul after LSG’s crushing 10-wicket defeat against Sunirsers Hyderabad which dented their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.

The video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking criticism of Goenka from all corners. In the video, the LSG owner was spotted scolding Rahul and venting out his frustration after the team’s defeat. Goenka was slammed by many, including the likes of Virender Sehwag and Mohammed Shami among others, who called his treatment of Rahul unacceptable.

Pant was asked to share his views on the controversial episode during his appearance on the ‘Aap ki Adalat’ show on India TV. The Team India wicket-keeper batter, who leads Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL, said he didn’t understand what triggered such a reaction from Goenka for Rahul but admitted there are lot of conversations after the team loses.

“I actually didn’t understand what happened in that situation. It seemed so by looking at it, and although I’m not sure what happened, there was something there. When you lose a match, there are obviously a lot of conversations. But the way it was portrayed, I’m not sure,” Pant said on the show.

Pant also went on to reveal that he is often scolded by the Delhi Capitals owners but it doesn’t affect him much as he has become stubborn now.

“I didn’t see the video in real time; otherwise, I would have given you an answer. I get scolded every day, but I’m also stubborn,” Pant added.

Days after the incident, LSG shared a picture of Goenka sharing a hug with Rahul during a team dinner hosted by the team owner to dispel the rumours of a rift between the duo. Nonetheless, reports had gone viral at the time that Rahul might asked to be released by LSG ahead of the mega auction next year and might not play for the team again.
