Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, shared her painful experience of suicidal thoughts during her time in the royal family. In a conversation on CBS News on Sunday, Meghan appearing alongside Prince Harry discussed their new venture, The Parents Network, and reflected on her past traumas.
Meghan, 43, revealed that her journey towards healing involves openly discussing her experiences.
“When you’ve been through any level of pain or trauma, i believe part of our healing journey, certainly part of mine, is being able to be really open about it,” she said.
Meghan further acknowledged that she has only begun to scratch the surface of her experiences and expressed her hope that sharing her story might help others. ‘
“I would never want someone else to feel thiat way,” Meghan continued.
“If my voicing what I have overcome will save someone or encourage someone in their life to genuinely check in on them, then that’se worth it. It’ll take a hit for that.”
This is Meghan’s first interview since her revealing discussing with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, where she first disclosed her struggles with suicidal thoughts during her preganancy with Prine Archie. She had previously described feeling overwhelmed by the negative media scrutiny, saying, “I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”
Since stepping down as senior members of the royal family in 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry have relocated to Montecito, California, where they live in a $14 million mansion. Their new project, The Parents Network, aims to support and empower families, reflecting their ongoing commitment to addressing mental health issues.
