New Delhi: There is no end to Pakistan cricket’s misery. A day after slumping to a humiliating Test series whitewash against Bangladesh, the Men in Green hit another historic low on Wednesday. After suffering their first-ever series loss to their neighbours, Shan Masood’s men slipped to the eighth spot in the ICC Test rankings.
But their torment didn’t end with the slip down in rankings. The demoralising loss resulted Pakistan in hitting a historic low of the lowest rating points since 1965.
Pakistan succumbed to a 10-wicket defeat in the first Test before surrendering the initiative in the second Test to lose the match by six wickets in Rawalpindi and with it the series for the first time against Bangladesh.
“Pakistan dropped two places in the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings to go to eighth position after suffering a shock series loss at home to Bangladesh,” the ICC said on its website.
ICC also said that the successive losses saw them drop two places below West Indies to eighth with 76 rating points.
According to the cricket’s governing body, this is the lowest rating points Pakistan have registered in the Test rankings table since 1965.
No reward for the “Tigers” despite roaring performance
Meanwhile, Bangladesh, despite scripting history, remained stagnant in the ICC rankings. The “Tigers” couldn’t earn any reward for their roaring performance in Rawalpindi and stayed in the ninth place behind Pakistan despite gaining 13 rating points.
However, the memorable series victory boosted Banglaedesh’s position in the points table for the World Test Championship cycle 2023-25. The Bangla Tigers are sitting at the fourth spot behind table-toppers India, Australia at second and New Zealand at third with 45.83 percentage points and 33 points with three wins and as many losses in six Tests.
After conquering Pakistan, Bangladesh now turn their attention to a two-Test series against India starting at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19.
