New Delhi: India women U19 team continued its terrific run in the ICC Women’s U19 World Cup with a thumping eight-wicket victory against Bangladesh in the Super Six stage fixture on Sunday. This marks the fourth successive win for the defending champions in this junior global event being held across Malaysia.

Left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma, who holds the best bowling figures in the tournament with her 5 for 5 against hosts Malaysia U19, was once again in the charge to lead India’s bowling attack. She removed the middle order and lower middle order batters with Sumaiya Akter, Jannutal Maoua, and Sadia Akter failing to read her deliveries and getting dismissed.

Vaishanavi mustered figures of 3 for 15 to keep the Bangladesh innings under control for a minuscule score of 64 for 8 after India bowled the allotted 20 overs. Shabnman Shakil, Joshitha VJ, and Aayushi Shukla claimed a wicket apiece.

Though the Bangladesh team couldn’t find their act together throughout the innings, this was the highest total by a team against India throughout the tournament. India have previously either bowled out or restricted their opponents for less than 60 – West Indies (44), Malaysia (31), and Sri Lanka (58).

Trisha Gongadi fires in paltry chase

Opening batter Trisha Gongadi once again shouldered the responsibility of the batting, smashing 40 runs from 31 balls at a strike rate of 129.03. She hit eight boundaries, showing her intent on a slow wicket, to keep the Bangladesh bowling attack under check. Wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini was dismissed for three runs after getting cleaned up by Anisa Akter Soba.

Trisha had almost done the job for India when she was dismissed, the team required only five runs to seal the win. Sanika Chalke (11*) and Niki Prasad (5*) made the task look smooth and completed the chase in 7.1 overs. India have confirmed their semifinal spot, though the opponent is yet to be known.

India will play their next match against Scotland Women U19 in the Super Six stage on Tuesday at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.

India U19 women won by eight wickets against Bangladesh U19 to register their fourth straight win in the tournament in the quest to defend their title. Vaishnavi Sharma and Trisha Gongadi were the top performers for the hosts.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
