Washington: Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump engaged in a conversation with SpaceX founder Elon Musk, marking his notable return to social media platform X on Monday evening, after a lengthy delay caused by a technical glitch that kept many users from accessing the live stream.
According to a counter on X, more than 1 million people were listening to the conversation between the two.
During their discussion, Trump reflected on a harrowing moment from his past the assassination attempt he survived in Butler, Pennsylvania. At a campaign rally there, Trump was shot in the ear, while one spectator was killed and two others were injured. The assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks, attempted to take Trump’s life but was shot dead in counter firing with the Secret Service.
The first question from Musk was regarding the Assassination attempt on him, to which he said that he immediately knew that it was a bullet and he had been hit by ear. The angle of his head meant it only hit his ear, otherwise it would have been worse.
Trump revealed that the Secret Service sniper was unaware of the situation at the time and stated “I have to take my hat off to him,” in reference to the incident. Discussing the gravity of the situation, Trump told, “You can’t fake bravery under such circumstances courage is instinctual or it is not.”
Trump recounted his reaction to the attack and wanted to covey about his condition to the Republican supporter at the Butler rally, saying, “I wanted to get up and let them know I was okay and they went wild.” When asked about the assassination attempt, Trump described it as “not pleasant” and shared his immediate realization that he had been hit by a bullet in his right ear.
Trump concluded with a reflection on faith, stating, “For those people that don’t believe in God, I think we all have to start thinking about that.”
“I didn’t know I had that much blood,” Trump said, of the shooting, while also saying it was the “best alternative you could think about” as he wasn’t more gravely injured.
“I’m a believer, now. I’m more of a believer in God, I think,” Trump said, while recalling the shooting.
