IND vs BAN 2nd Test: Complete list of records India broke on Day 4

New Delhi: After two consecutive days turned out without any action in the second Test match between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur, the Indian men’s cricket team named a flurry of batting records in the traditional format on Monday at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

Bangladesh resumed the Day 4 from their Friday’s overnight score of 107 for 3 with Mominul Haque (40) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6) coming out to bat for the visitors. Barring Mominul, the rest of the Bangladesh batting unit lacked the intent to hold the firm and score runs briskly at the same time.

The wickets tumbled from the other end but Mominul looked confident with the bat, thus becoming the second Bangladesh batter to hit a Test century in India after Rahim. Jasprit Bumrah and Co. cut short the Bangladesh innings for 233, taking only 29.2 overs to pick the remaining seven wickets in the first session of Day 4.

Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (72) and Rohit Sharma (23) played ferociously from the word go in a bid to put India with a commanding lead. The middle order carried from where the openers left with KL Rahul (68 runs in 43 balls) and Virat Kohli (47 runs in 35 balls) taking on the mantle. India declared their innings on 285 for 9 in 34.4 overs in the final session of the day with a decent lead of 52 runs in the first innings.

Bangladesh were 26 for 2 wickets down at the end of the day’s play, trailing by 26 runs though. A win for India looks a herculean task from here but the hosts cannot be written off after what they did against England in the Ahmedabad Test against England in 2021.

For now, let’s take a look at the records broken by the Indian cricket team on Day 4 of the India-Bangladesh second Test.

List of records India broke on Day 4

India scored the fastest fifty by a team in Test cricket history. Rohit and Jaiswal took just three overs (18 balls) to achieve the record. Earlier this year, England claimed the record to their name in 4.2 overs against the West Indies in Birmingham.
India also scored the fastest team hundred in Test matches, with Rohit, Jaiswal and Shubman Gill achieving the milestone in 10.1 overs. India bettered its own record of scoring 100 runs in 12.2 overs against the West Indies in the Port of Spain last year.
India completed 150 runs in 18.2 overs, which is the fastest 150 by a team in Test cricket.
India took just 24.2 overs to reach 200, also making the Asian side as the fastest to reach the mark in Tests.
India took 30.1 overs to complete 250 runs, another team total record in its cap.
India’s 8.22 run rate was the highest by a Test batting side with minimum of 200-plus runs scored. Australia held the record with 7.53 run rate against Pakistan in the Sydney Test of the 2017 bilateral series. Australia declared their innings at 241 for 2.
The 55-run opening partnership between Rohit and Jaiswal, which came in 23 balls, is the fastest fifty by a pair in Test cricket.
The Indian Test team has now smashed 94 sixes in eight Test matches played this year. This is the most by a Test team in a particular calendar year. England’s 89 was the previous best achieved in 2022.
Ravindra Jadeja became the seventh Indian bowler to complete 300 Test wickets. He became the second quickest (17428 balls) to complete the milestone from the country. Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record by an Indian bowler, having picked 300 Test wickets in 15636 balls.
Jadeja became the quickest Indian to complete the double haul of 300 Test wickets and 3000 Test runs. He completed this achievement in his 74th Test match, which is nine lesser than Kapil Dev (83) and 14 lesser than Ashwin (88). Former England all-rounder Ian Botham is the only cricketer in Test cricket history to better Jadeja’s mark in 72 Tests.
Virat Kohli became the fastest batter to complete 27,000 runs in international cricket across formats. He attained the landmark in 594 innings, surpassing Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar’s record achieved in 623 innings.
