New Delhi: India women’s team rode on a remarkable century from Jemimah Rodrigues and a sensational half-century from Deepti Sharma to beat South Africa by 23 runs in the women’s ODI Tri-Nation series to storm into the final. India lock horns with Sri Lanka women in the summit clash on Sunday, May 11 in Colombo.
This was Rodrigues’ career-best century while Deepti scored 93 runs as Indian women posted a mammoth score of 337/9 in the stipulated 50 overs batting first. Deepti’s 93 runs came off just 84 balls including 10 boundaries and 2 sixes. Rodrigues, on the other end, slammed 123 runs off just 101 balls which included 15 boundaries and a lone six.
Smriti Mandhana too contributed with a 51-run knock while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored only 28 runs. For the South African side, Masabata Klaas, Nadine de Klerk and Nonkululeko Mlaba shined with the ball claiming two wickets each while Annerie Dercksen and Chloe Tryon also contributed with a wicket apiece.
SA’s chase ends at 314
South Africa ended their run chase at 314 for 7 from 50 overs with Annerie Dercksen top-scoring with 81 and skipper Chloe Tryon contributing 67. Miane Smit also scored 39 runs while opener Tazmin Brits contributed 26 runs. Although all the batters contributed with the bat still the Proteas women remained 23 runs short of the target.
For India, Amanjot Kaur was the most successful bowler with three wickets while Deepti Sharma chipped in with two scalps. Shree Charani and Pratika Rawal claimed one wicket apiece. Before the final on Sunday, Sri Lanka will lock horns in a dead rubber, the 6th match, against South Africa on Friday.
