India Hockey squad at Paris Olympics: All you need to know about India’s national sport

Hockey is India’s most successful sport in the history of the Olympics. India have won 11 medals in hockey of which eight are Gold medals. India have a rich history in Hockey in the Olympics. India won back-to-back six Gold medals in Hockey. Late Sir Dhyan Chand’s contribution was phenomenal in the history of Indian Hockey.

India are coming with a Bronze medal in the last edition of the Olympics. In the Paris Olympics, 12 teams are participating to win Olympic glory. India are placed in Pool B with defending champions Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, and Ireland. India will begin their campaign on July 27 where they take on New Zealand.

India won a Gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year but in recent times India has come with three consecutive losses from the FIH Pro League tournament. India last won a gold medal in the Olympics way back in the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

Defender and ace-flicker Harmanpreet Singh will lead the Indian team, this is his third Olympics, and played a major role in India’s historic Bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020. Five players are set to make their debut in the Olympics which include Jarmanpreet Singh, Sanjay, Raj Kumar Pal, Abhishek, and Sukhjeet Singh.
