New Delhi: India’s javelin star Neeraj Chopra achieved the landmark of 90 metres on Friday, while participating in the Doha Diamond League, as he recorded a throw of 90.23 metres to finish second in the men’s javelin throw final. The outing was indeed bittersweet for the 27-year-old, who was trumped by his German competitor Julian Weber, but was able to send a wave of joy back home for crossing the elusive barrier.
Neeraj started his 2025 season with the Diamond League event and put up a stellar show as his third attempt landed beyond 90 metres, which happened for the very first time in his career. The Indian sporting fraternity has been hailing Neeraj for his amazing throw, and even the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, who has met with him several times, grabbed the opportunity to laud the Haryana boy.
Taking to his “X” account, PM Modi wrote, “A spectacular feat! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for breaching the 90 m mark at Doha Diamond League 2025 and achieving his personal best throw. This is the outcome of his relentless dedication, discipline and passion. India is elated and proud.”
