New Delhi: The India Open badminton tournament is around the corner as the country’s top shuttlers will get the opportunity to play in front of the home crowd in what is the second Badminton World Federation (BWF) event of the season.
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has fielded its largest ever contingent of 21-member group for the India Open, which will take place at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi. The big aim for the Indian shuttlers would be to end the title drought in the event as not a single title in any of the five categories was won by India in the last two editions in 2023 and 2024.
This would be a complete redemption for the Indian players following an ordinary Paris Olympics in 2024. Though only Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made it to the semifinal of the Malaysia Open in the season opener, the other Indian shuttlers can take the India Open to notch up their game.

The last Indians to win titles at the India Open are Lakshya Sen (men’s singles) and Satwik-Chirag (men’s doubles). All three will be in contention to lift the title once again.
Double-Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will also be in contention as she will play her first tournament following her wedding last month. She ended her title drought in Lucknow at the Syed Modi International BWF Super 300 event in December 2024.
There will be many youngsters who could surprise the big names with the likes of Aakarshi Kashyap, Malvika Bansod, Anupama Upadhyay, Priyanshu Rajawat, Pruthvi K Roy and Sai Pratheek to be the challengers.
The tournament will be boasted of reigning Olympic gold medallists Viktor Axelsen and An Se Young along with World No.1 Shi Yuqi and second seeded Jonathan Chritstie.
