New Delhi: Harmanpreet Kaur-led India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in a blockbuster clash in Dubai on October 06 as the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday announced the revised schedule for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament was initially scheduled to be staged in Bangladesh. However, it was moved out of Bangladesh due to the ongoing political unrest in the country.
Several players expressed concerns about playing in Bangladesh citing security concerns amid the current situation in the country following which ICC sprung into action. The BCCI was approached to host the tournament in India, however, the board declined the offer following which UAE was roped in as the host for the tournament.
The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to get underway on October 03 and will consist of a total of 23 matches. All matches will be played across only two venues in the UAE – Dubai and Sharjah. A total of ten teams will take part in the tournament. The ten teams have been divided into groups of two each which remain unchanged.
Group A consists of defending champion Australia alongside India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka while Group B consists of England, South Africa, West Indies, Bangladesh and Scotland. Each team will play four matches in the group stage and the top two teams will make it to the semi-finals which will be played on October 17 and 18. The final of the tournament will be played in Dubai on October 20.
A reserve day has been kept in place for both the semi-finals and the final on October 20. India will feature in the first semi-final of the tournament if they manage to qualify.
