India-Pakistan cricket future atop ICC’s AGM in July among other key matters

New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) from July 17 to 20 in Singapore. For ICC chairman Jay Shah, this would be the first AGM with the former BCCI secretary at helm since taking the office in December 2024. With Shah as the head of the global cricketing body, talks on India and Pakistan’s cricketing future is expected to be one of the main topics.

According to a report in Crictracker, India-Pakistan’s cricketing future is expected to headline the annual meeting along with several other key issues. While the cricketing ties between both the nations have taken a hit from a very long time, the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where 26 civilians were brutally killed, has further deteriorated the cricketing relations between India and Pakistan, leading to speculations whether India will play Pakistan in the future or not.

AGM in presence of top administrators

In presence of chairman Jay Shah, the AGM will witness a high-profile gathering of cricket’s top administrators who will discuss several key issues with the Indo-Pak one being the main. Though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has denied any formal decision to pull out of the Asia Cup or suspend any cricketing relations in the future events yet nothing can be guaranteed as of now.

Meanwhile, Shah has announced the construction of the teams to support displaced Afghan women cricketers and keeping in mind his interest in the issue, this topic is supposed to be further discussed in the meet. The potential phasing out of the two-ball rule in ODIs and converting under-19 men’s world cup to T20 format are some other issues that expectedly should be discussed. Another suggestion is about introducing a 60-second time limit between overs in Test matches to improve the pace of play.
