New Delhi: Has Mpox arrived in India? The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday said that a young male patient who has a history of travelling from a country currently noticing a Mpox (Monkeypox) case. This person has been identified as a suspect case of Mpox in India. As per reports of the Ministry, the patient has been kept under isolation in a designated hospital and is said to be in a stable state.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Health, the reports and samples collected from the patient have been confirmed to have the presence of Mpox. The case is being looked after keeping all the established guidelines in mind. Moreover, contact tracing is going on to find out the potential sources and assess the impact within the country.
A suspected Mpox case is currently under investigation.
The patient is put under isolation.

The NCDC had earlier checked the risk of the case and there is no such cause of concern currently, reports note. The country is completely prepared to deal with such travel histories and has robust measures to manage and reduce the risk of the virus.
What is Mpox?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Mpox which was earlier called monkeypox is a disease that is caused by an infection with a virus called monkeypox virus. The virus belongs to the elongated family of the same virus that causes smallpox. This is one of the reasons why there are times when people misunderstand between smallpox and mpox. Mpox is a zoonotic disease that majorly spreads between animals and people.

Signs of swollen lymph nodes.
Chills.
Headache.
Muscle aches.
Fatigue.
