New Delhi: In what could come as a massive blow for India, Jasprit Bumrah will likely miss the upcoming white-ball series against England and potentially the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan and UAE next month. Bumrah suffered a back injury in the fifth and final Test which prevented him from bowling in the final innings of the match.
Though Bumrah’s injury was believed to be a back spasm after the Indian pacer left the field and went to the hospital for scans, a fresh report on the extent of his injury might worry the Indian fans.
According to a report in RevSportz, the injury is likely to keep Bumrah on the sidelines for an extended period, which included India’s white-ball assignment against England – featuring 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs – and the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy next month.
Bumrah’s fitness the biggest talking point ahead of CT
Bumrah has had trouble with injuries in the recent past and BCCI doesn’t want to take any chances with his fitness. Taking his injury history into account, the selectors will not risk the pacer for the England series and will take a call on his participation in the Champions Trophy after consulting with the medical staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Bumrah was left devastated after being ruled out of the final day of the fifth Test in Sydney. The ace speedster, who was named Player of the Match for picking up 32 wickets, opened up on his injury and the disappointment after discovering a “little discomfort in his back.
Will Shami make the cut?
India are also hoping for the return of Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav, who are also recovering from their respective injuries. Shami, in particular, has been a topic of discussion among the fans and the pundits.
Shami, after recovering from an ankle injury, returned to competitive cricket for Bengal in Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 and Vijay Hazare one-dayers and raised hopes of a late inclusion in India’s BGT squad.
But the star pacer was officially ruled out ahead of the fourth Test in Melbourne after the BCCI medical team cited a knee swelling.
Back injury is likely to keep Jasprit Bumrah on the sidelines for an extended period, which includes India’s white-ball assignment against England and the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy next month. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
