New Delhi: After their Test debacle in Australia, India will return to white-ball action when they take on England in a five-match T20I series starting Wednesday, January 22. The 1st T20I will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Both teams have already reached Kolkata and begun their preparations for the series which is expected to be a cracker of contest between the two top sides.

The T20I series will be followed by a three-match ODI series between India and England which will be used as a preparatory ground for both teams to get into the groove ahead of the all-important Champions Trophy 2025 next month. India have endured a rough patch in Test cricket over the last few months but will be hoping to bounce back as the focus shifts to white-ball cricket.

India have named a strong squad for the T20I series despite resting some big names, including Jasprit Bumrah. Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead the Men in Blue with Axar Patel acting as his deputy in the series. India have a star-studded line-up consisting of the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar, Tilak, Hardik Pandya and Nitish Reddy among others.

Meanwhile, senior pacer Mohammed Shami, who will be making his international comeback after 14 months, will spearhead India’s pace attack in the series in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. He will be supported by the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana. Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi are the two specialist spinners in the squad.
