New Delhi: The Indian cricket team will be up against South Africa in a four-match T20I series that begins on November 8 at the Kingsmead Stadium in Durban. The next three games are scheduled in Gqeberha, Centurion, and Johannesburg, on November 10, 13, and 15, respectively. The last meetup between the two teams was an exciting and grand affair as both locked horns in a T20 World Cup final in Barbados in June this year.
India were crowned winners after winning the nail-biting final match while for South Africa, it was another heartbreak in an ICC event. Suryakumar Yadav, who was a part of the title-winning squad, will be leading the Men in Blue in the Rainbow Nation and along with his team, would like to go all guns blazing to win the series and shatter some notable records that are in queue for the Indian players.
Here’s a look at some major records that the Indian players can break during SA T20I series:
Highest T20I run-getter for India vs SA –
Skipper Suryakumar will have the opportunity to go past his predecessor Rohit Sharma and become the leading run-scorer for India in T20Is against South Africa. The ace batter has amassed 346 runs in seven games against the Proteas and only requires 84 to overtake Rohit’s tally of 429 runs in 18 T20Is. David Miller is the batter who has scored the most runs in the T20Is between the two nations – 452 runs in 21 matches played so far.
Highest run-getter vs SA in T20Is –
Another record that Surya can break is if he manages to score 156 in the upcoming series, he will surpass Jonny Bairstow of England to become the top run-scorer in T20Is against the Proteas. Bairstow has accumulated 501 runs in 16 T20I so far.
Highest run-getter for SA in T20Is –
David Miller requires 189 runs in the four-match series against India to surpass Quinton de Kock’s record of 2584 runs and become the leading run-scorer for South Africa in the shortest format of the game.
Third to hit 150 sixes in T20Is –
Surya debuted for India in T20Is in March 2021. Since then, he has smashed 144 sixes in 74 games for the Men in Blue. If he hits at least six more sixes in the series, he will be the third batter after Rohit (205) and Martin Guptill (173) to hit 150 or more sixes in the shortest format of the game.
Most T20I wickets for India –
Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya both have 87 wickets to their credit in T20Is and will be seen rolling their arm over in the series. If they pick 10 wickets or more, they will break Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of 96 wickets and become the highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is. If both bowlers are able to dismiss 13 batters, they will be the first to take 100 T20I wickets for India.
Quickest pacer to 100 wickets in T20Is –
Arshdeep (87 wickets in 56 T20Is) needs just 13 wickets against South Africa in the upcoming series to become the fastest pacer in the world to take 100 wickets in T20Is. The record currently stays with Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf, who crossed the 100-wicket milestone in 71 matches.
Multiple records are in fray that can be broken by the Indian team players who are touring South Africa for a four-match T20I series. The show starts on November 8 with the first clash in Durban. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
