Indian American Rally in Texas to Stop ‘Hindu Genocide’ in Bangladesh

Texas: More than 300 Indian Americans and Bangladeshi-origin Hindus gathered peacefully outside Sugar Land City Hall on Sunday morning to protest the ongoing violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh

The vigil, titled “Save Hindus in Bangladesh,” was organized by the Global Voice for Bangladesh Minorities, representing several major Hindu organizations in Houston including Maitri, Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America, HinduAction, HinduPact, Houston Durgabari Society, ISKCON, Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora, and many more.

Protestors Call for International Intervention

The protesters urged the Biden Administration to take immediate action against the violence that has targeted Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. The rally featured emotional speeches, where organizers called for the U.S. government to intervene to protect Hindus and other minority communities. They mentioned that the recent surge in violence poses a significant threat to regional peace and stability.

A Bangladeshi-origin American woman present at the vigil spoke with palpable emotion, her voice breaking as she shared, “The horrific acts of violence back home are devastating. When we call home and hear about these brutal acts every single day, it tears us apart. So many innocent lives have been lost! Places of worship have been burned or vandalized, and women have been horrifically abused. This must stop now! We cannot stand idly by while our people suffer!”

Global Outcry to Protect Hindus in Bangladesh

Achlesh Amar, representing the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America and HinduAction, spoke to the crowd with urgency. “We strongly condemn the assault on the Hindu community for their pluralistic beliefs. We stand united with our brothers and sisters in Bangladesh and demand immediate action from the Bangladeshi government to ensure the safety of all its citizens,” Amar said.

Deepti Mahajan, co-convener of HinduPACT, also shared her concerns, warning of a potential genocide. “Reports from within Bangladesh reveal unimaginable torture, killings, and the burning of Hindu temples. The situation is dire and requires international attention,” Mahajan said.

‘Stop Hindu Genocide’: Read Placards

Participants held placards with messages such as “Stop Hindu Genocide” and “Hindu Lives Matter,” while rallying cries echoed through the crowd. The event concluded with a collective demand for immediate global action to end the violence and protect religious minorities.

Protests are spreading worldwide in an effort to protect minorities in Bangladesh following the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a week ago. The lack of law enforcement has led to chaos in the region, where extreme Islamists are targeting and attacking Hindus.

People have protested in front of the United Nations headquarters, calling for intervention in the political unrest and protection for Hindus. The UK also witnessed protests on Saturday, urging nations to intervene and stand up for vulnerable Hindus in Bangladesh.
