Indian Railways: 154 Special Train services for Diwali, Durga Puja, Chhath

New Delhi: To cater to the rush during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, the Central Railway will operate 154 additional Special Train services. In total, Indian Railways will be operating nearly 6,000 special trains to ensure one crore passengers reach their home to enjoy festivals with their loved ones.

The Railways has also announced plans to introduce additional general coaches to 108 trains and 12,500 coaches to tackle the surge in passenger traffic during the Diwali and Chhath festivals. Durga Puja begins on October 9, Diwali will be celebrated on October 31 while Chhath Puja festival will be held on November 7 and 8.

Several train routes like New Delhi-Howrah, New Delhi-Patna, Mumbai-Howrah, Chennai-Patna and Howrah, Gujarat-Uttar Pradesh-West Bengal-Bihar witness heavy rush during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath festivals. Railway Minister Vaishnaw has announced that a total of 5,975 special trains have been notified for the festival season, up from 4,429 in 2023.

Shri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus, Lonavala, Pune, Sangli, Miraj, Jejuri, Kalyan, Lonand, Satara, Karad, and Kirloskarvadi.

Osmanabad, Harangul, Bhigwan, Jeur, Kem, Dadar, Lonavala, Pune, Uruli, Daund, Thane, Kalyan, Kurduwadi, and Barsi Town.

Bhusawal, Khandwa, Itarsi, Pipariya, Jabalpur, Dadar, Kalyan, Igatpuri, Nashik Road, Katni, Satna, Prayagraj Chheoki, Pt. “In view of the huge demand from passengers travelling to Northern parts of India for the upcoming festival season, Railways have decided to run Festival Special Trains for 154 additional services during the Diwali & Chhat festivals to clear the extra rush of passengers,” Central Railways stated in its release.
