Indian Railways: Don’t ignore these rules for general compartment train travel!

New Delhi: The Indian Railways, often termed as India’s lifeline, operates thousands of trains daily catering to millions of passengers across various ticket categories including AC, sleeper, and general coaches. Passengers can choose from AC, sleeper, and general coach tickets based on their convenience and budget. AC and sleeper coach tickets are priced higher than general coach tickets, making them less accessible to all travelers. There are many more things that people need to know before travelling to a general coach.

Rules for General Coach Travel

When traveling in a general coach, passengers must adhere to specific rules to avoid inconvenience and penalties. For journeys less than 199 kilometers in a general coach, tickets should not be purchased more than 3 hours prior to departure. This rule, implemented in 2016, aims to curb ticket black marketing.

Penalties for Early Ticket Purchase

If a ticket is bought more than 3 hours in advance for a journey under 199 kilometers, it is considered invalid, and travelers may face fines. For journeys exceeding 199 kilometers, passengers can purchase general tickets up to 3 days in advance, offering flexibility and convenience for longer trips.

Purpose of Regulations

These regulations ensure fair access to tickets and prevent exploitation of the system, thereby maintaining efficiency and transparency in ticket distribution across the Indian Railways network.

Understanding and following these rules is crucial for a hassle-free journey in the general coach of Indian Railways. By following these guidelines, passengers contribute to a smoother and more equitable travel experience for all.

Buying a ticket more than 3 hours before a journey under 199 km is invalid, leading to possible fines for travelers due to rule violations.  Business Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
