New Delhi: In a massive boosting for Indian wrestling at grass root levels, four women wrestlers have reached the finals of different categories at the Under-17 World Championships in Amman, Jordan on Thursday, August 21. Aditi Kumari, Neha, Pulkit, and Mansi Lather will be in title contention.
It started with Aditi displaying sheer brilliance against Ukraine’s Karolina Shpervk (10-0) and and Egypt’s Marriem Mohamed Abdelaal (4-2) in the qualification rounds of the women’s 43kg category. She continued her form in the semifinal, outsmarting Aleksandra Berezovskaia 8-2 in their semifinal bout. Aditi will meet Maria Louiza Gkika of Greece in the final.
Neha didn’t drop a single point in her qualification rounds of women’s 57kg en route to the seminal. The Indian youngster pinned Greek grappler Mairi Mani in the first round before claiming a victory against Miranda Kapanadze of Georgia on the basis of technical superiority. A 8-4 win over Kazakhstan’s Anna Stratan confirmed Neha’s place in the final of the 57kg, where she will face So Tsuitsui of Japan.

In the 65kg, Pulkit bettered China’s Ling Cai for ‘win by fall’ and later registered a dominant 9-0 victory over Juliana Catanzaro. Pulkit defeated Egyptian Maram Ibrahim Aly 3-0 in the semifinal to set up a gold medal contest with Daria Frolova.
Mansi Lather made the 73kg final by conceding just two points as she beat Lotta Englich (11-0), Piper Meredith Fowler (6-0), and Khrystyna Demchuk (12-2, by fall) to qualify for the final, where she will meet Hanna Pirskaya.
All four junior Indian wrestlers will play the finals of their respective categories on Thursday.
Male wrestlers witness mixed results
In the Greco-Roman bronze medal play-off, Ronak, ranked two in the world, comfortably disposed of the challenge of Turkey’s Emrullah Capkan 6-1 to claim India’s first medal from the championship on Tuesday night.
He had lost to eventual silver medallist Zoltan Czako of Hungary in the semi-final. The gold was won by Ukraine’s Ivan Yankovskyi, who beat Czako by technical superiority.
Sainath Pardhi added to India’s tally by beating Kazakhstan’s Mussan Yerassyl in the 51kg bronze play-off after winning his repechage round.
