New Delhi: India’s aviations sector recorded a new milestone by hitting its highest half year traffic mark in the period ending June 20204 at 79.3 million passengers, up from 76 million in the year ago period, the DGCA said. Budget carrier IndiGo continued to dominate India’s domestic aviation sector with a 61 per cent share of the market followed by Tata Group-owned Air India at 14.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2024, according to data shared by aviation watchdog DGCA. The aviation year overlaps with the calendar year.
IndiGo improved its count of passengers carried to 245.33 lakh at the end of Q2, from 235.97 lakh passengers carried in Q1 of CY2024. Air India carried 56.95 lakh passengers at the end of the June quarter, followed by Tata Group-Singapofe Airlines JV Vistara at 37.65 lakh passengers carried. The latter holds 9.4 per cent market share in India’s domestic aviation sector.
Passenger complaints data
Passenger complaints recorded against Air India stood at 1.1 per 10,000 passengers in June 2024.
Vistara did not report any such complaints in June 2024, according to DGCA’s data.
IndiGo’s passenger complaints numbered 0.2 per 10,000 passengers in June 2024.
On-time performance and passengers affected
IndiGo trailed Akasa Air, Vistara and AIX Connect in terms of on-time performance from Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai airports. Air India ranked 5th on the list behind IndiGo.
IndiGo reported the highest number of passengers affected by cancellations at 54,320 passengers followed by SpiceJet at 9,078 passengers affected.
The airline recorded the second highest number of passengers affected by flight delays beyond 2 hours at 38,577, behind Air Indua’s count of 74,884.
