IndiGo ties up with Garuda Aviation

IndiGo inked an agreement for pilot training with Garuda Aviation Academy a day after Air India announced plans to launch its own pilot academy in Maharashtra. IndiGo’s tie-up will facilitate the training of junior first officers as part of its Cadet Pilot Programme. The 21-month course will include 3 months of ground schooling. Over 1,000 pilots have been inducted by IndiGo over the past 13 years, it said.

IndiGo caters to 88 domestic destinations and 400 routes, according to CEO Pieter Elbers. The airline also flew to 33 international destinations and is eyeing flights to Europe and Asia with its recent Airbus XLR order. The airline is also reportedly considering an order of small jets to fly UDAN routes in remote areas.

The airline has placed an order for 500 jets with Airbus with an eye on expansion in domestic operations. The company was also reportedly set to receive compensation from engine maker Pratt and Whitney for grounded planes owing to unavailability of engine replacements.
