New Delhi: Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu battled her way into the second round of the ongoing Indonesia Open 2025 Super 1000 badminton tournament on Tuesday. While it was a happy news for the Indian fans with the progress of the star Indian shuttler but couple of other Indian shuttlers bowed out of the event.

Sidhu played an exceptional game right from the beginning of the match overcoming old rival Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in a clash that lasted for one-hour and 19 minutes. The star Indian shuttler beat the Japanese player 22-20, 21-23, 21-15 in the women’s singles game which proved to be totally absorbing.

‘It is important to get that first win because that definitely gives me confidence and also the boost to go to the next round. I have been losing in the first rounds (of late) so it was very much useful and important for me to winning matches like these,’ said Sindhu after her match.

Sen, Prannoy bow out

Meanwhile, it was curtains for Lakshya Sen and Prannoy Roy who bowed out of their respective clashes to exit the tournament. Sen fought valiantly before falling 11-21, 22-20, 15-21 against world number two Shi Yu Qi of China. After losing the first set, Sen bounced back strongly in the second winning it comfortably but the third set again proved against him where he failed to outplay the Chinese in the contest which lasted for 65 minutes.

Another Indian  shuttler HS Prannoy also bowed out from the USD 1,450,000 tournament as the 2023 World Championships bronze medallist lost 17-21, 18-21 to Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan.

In some other results, Malvika Bansod retired mid-way through her women’s singles match against Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia. The Indian was leading 21-16 16-15 before she slipped on the court and clutched her knee in pain before retiring. Anupama Upadhyaya went down in straight games 15-21, 9-21 to Korea’s Kim Ga Eun.
