Injury scare for Pakistan as Saim Ayub stretchered off on Day 1 of South Africa Test

New Delhi: Pakistan team suffered an injury scare on the opening day of the second Test match against South Africa in Cape Town on Friday. In a big blow to the side, opening batter Saim Ayub was stretchered off after an injury to his ankle. The severity of Ayub’s injury is not known exactly but he has been taken to the hospital for the treatment where things would be clear.

On the field during the opening day’s play, he was unable to carry weight ion his right ankle and was seen in tears after the incident happened at the stadium. The injury took place in the 7th over when South African batter Ryan Rickelton, who smashed a sensational century, edged a ball through the slips, which prompted Ayub to chase it to the boundary along with Aamer Jamal.

Ayub loses balance and twists ankle

As Jamal was closer to the ball, he pulled it back and Ayub, who was placed as the relay fielder, was disbalanced and in the process, twisted his ankle and immediately fell down. He was seen in deep pain as the physio rushed to assist him and in the end, he had to be taken off the field. Ayub was first treated near the boundary rope where he fell in pain but since his condition looked bad, he was stretchered off.

After the first day ended, the Pakistan player was seen being taken to the hospital but he did not look in a good shape at all. Pictures were viral on social media where Ayub could be seen limping while his right ankle was covered with a support.

Earlier, Proteas captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat first as the hosts lead the series 1-0. They scored 316/4 at stumps on the first day as Ryan Rickelton and the captain smashed sensational centuries, While Bavuma got out before the day’s play ended, Rickelton was looking solid on 176 runs.
