New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been approached by Indian Premier League (IPL) side Delhi Capitals for a possible coaching role according to a media report. The flamboyant all-rounder is in talks with the IPL franchise after the exit of Ricky Ponting, as per a report in Sportstar.
In order to start afresh in the 18th season of the league after a few disappointing seasons in the cash-rich league, the Capitals side is keen on roping in Yuvraj for the role, the report mentions. The flamboyant Indian batter garnered plenty of attention in recent times as a mentor of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, and that seems to have brought him in the radar of IPL franchises as well.
GT to look for other options
Earlier, reports also surfaced that IPL franchise Gujarat Titans has also approached Yuvraj for the head coach role after their coach Gary Kirsten joined Pakistan, but recent developments suggest that GT are looking for some other options for that role left vacant by the South Africa veteran. The report also mentions that there were initially talks of making Sourav Ganguly as the new head coach but later it was clarified that the Capitals are fine with him being the Director of Cricket.
If all goes smoothly between Yuvraj and the IPL franchise, he might join his former skipper at Delhi Capitals. Rishabh Pant continues to lead the Delhi team as of now but reports of him being replaced are also doing the rounds recently. With a lot of reports in the media circle ahead of the season, it will be very interesting to see how Delhi Capitals shape up as a franchise for the IPL 2025 edition.
