New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen admitted that his team failed in posting a competitive total for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), resulting in a five-wicket loss in Hyderabad on Thursday. The game was expected to be another run-fest from the SRH batters at their home ground, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, but the LSG bowlers restricted them to just 190 in 20 overs.
This made it difficult for SRH to challenge their opponents, who chased the target with ease in just 16.1 overs. “A score of 210-220 would have been par on this wicket,” Klaasen said during the post-match press conference, as he reflected on the team’s batting performance. He pointed out that the team kept on losing wickets, which disrupted their momentum.
“We kept losing wickets at the wrong times, and that’s something we need to address. We’ll make sure it doesn’t happen too often in the future,” he added. The famed opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma didn’t star like the usual, increasing the pressure on the middle order. But… Klaasen didn’t feel this was the case, saying that they have destructive players all the way down to no. 8, and “Travishek” does not need to fire every single time.
Crediting opposition
The Proteas batter also said SRH does not take any opposition lightly in the IPL. He said each team is playing quality cricket and specially on a pitch like this (Uppal), any batting unit can put the opposition under pressure. He credited the opposition for breaking SRH’s momentum. “Credit to the opposition – they bowled well in the middle overs and took early wickets, which hampered our momentum. But that’s part of the game,” the 33-year-old said.
As SRH lost some early wickets, Klaasen said it made things difficult for his side in keeping the scoring rate up. While concluding, according to him, SRH’s total “simply wasn’t enough.” The team will next face Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, while LSG will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Lucknow on April 1.
