New Delhi: In a massive setback for Rajasthan Royals, skipper Sanju Samson is set to miss team’s upcoming IPL 2025 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru because of an abdominal injury. The Royals issued as statement to confirm the development. The Royals lock horns with RCB in an away clash on Thursday.
A statement from the team said, ‘Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is currently undergoing recovery and will remain at the team’s home base with select RR medical staff. As part of his ongoing rehab process, he will not be travelling to Bangalore for the upcoming match against RCB.’
The statement further said that the team management is monitoring his progress closely and his return to action would be decided with a game-by-game approach. The Royals skipper missed the team’s last clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) because of the same injury. Samson had sustained the injury while batting in the contest against Delhi Capitals (DC) previously.
Riyan Parag to lead RR
Since there’s no official confirmation about Samson’s return so the franchise has named youngster Riyan Parag as the interim skipper in his absence. At the start of the season too, Parag had filled in for Samson when he was recovering from a surgery to his thumb. He had been advised not to keep wickets then, before he became fully fit.
This injury, though paved way for 14-year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut in the IPL where he announced his arrival in style with a gritty knock against LSG. The Royals, however, have been witnessing a tough time in IPL 2025, sitting at eighth position with just two wins so far after eight matches. They are set to take on RCB at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 24.
