New Delhi: Rohit Sharma proved once again that he is the man for the big occasions as the senior batter came up with a sensational knock in the IPL 2025 Eliminator clash between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. Rohit, who had couple of lifelines early on, capitalised on the sloppy fielding effort of the Titans to smash 81 runs off just 50 deliveries in the do or die clash for both the teams.
His fiery knock was laced with nine boundaries and four sixes as he took the Mullanpur cricket stadium by storm, showcasing his best effort on a crucial occasion. The team which loses the encounter on Friday would be knocked out of the league while the winning side will play Punjab Kings in the second qualifier on Sunday. The winner of the second qualifier will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final on June 3.
Rohit achieves big feat
With the whirlwind knock, Rohit registered the highest-ever individual score by a Mumbai Indians batter in the IPL playoffs history. By virtue of the knock, the Mumbai batter stepped up for the side in the most important clash. Earlier, Rohit, after getting to 43 runs, completed 7000 runs in the cash-rich league, becoming the second Indian after Virat Kohli to reach to the landmark.
On a day which proved to be memorable for the Indian white-ball skipper, he also completed 300 sixes in the league, becoming the first Indian batter in IPL to reach the milestone. Meanwhile, with help from Rohit’s fabulous knock, Jonny Bairstow’s 47 and Suryakumar Yadav’s 33 runs, Mumbai scored a massive 228 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, giving a target of 229 for the Titans.
Tilak Varma also contributed 25 runs while skipper Hardik Pandya scored crucial 22 runs towards the end to help the side to a mammoth total. The last over proved to be instrumental for the side as they scored 22 runs in the final six deliveries.
