IPL Auction 2025: What all to expect on Day 2; a look at players to watch out for

New Delhi: The IPL Mega Auction took off in Jeddah on Sunday after lots of twists and turns unfolded on the opening day of the two-day auction event. The 10 existing teams completed a total deal of 72 players worth of an aggregate sum of INR 467.95 crore. There were 12 players unsold out of the 84 which went under the hammer.

As many as 493 players, who were shortlisted for the auction, are left for the auction. However, only 72 of those players will be pushed ahead on Day 2 with the remaining likely to be shortlisted for the accelerated auction, which will take part after the core set of players.

Although the second day won’t see massive sums being offered by the franchises after the sizeable purses were reduced on Sunday. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has the most purse left with INR 30.65 crore to spend on Day 2. Mumbai Indians (26.10 crore) and Punjab Kings (22.50 crore) are the next teams with a reasonable budget left.

Many international and uncapped players will still be in demand with the teams yet to complete their minimum squad of 18 members. Some of the players to watchout for on Day 2 of auction will be Faf du Plessis, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rovman Powell, Ajinkya Rahane, James Anderson, Prithvi Shaw, Kane Williamson, Sam Curran, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, and Nitish Rana with many unfamiliar faces likely to bag substantial prices.

Will there be a record-breaking auction on Day 2?

It looks very unlikely that any player left in the auction will be able to match or better the record-breaking bid of INR 27 crore shelled out by Lucknow Super Giants for Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. However, a bid over INR 10 crore can still be a possibility by teams with a few players having the potential to attract bidding war.

What is accelerate auction in IPL 2025 auction?

The accelerate auction isn’t a new concept for the IPL franchises where all teams shortlist their set of players who are left (even from the unsold list of players in the initial phase of auction). On Monday, the accelerated process will start once the player No.116 is sold.

As many as 493 players, who were shortlisted for the auction, are left for the auction. However, only 72 of those players will be pushed ahead on Day 2 with the remaining likely to be shortlisted for the accelerated auction, which will take part after the core set of players.    Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
